Bear Hug

Here is a little taste of our upcoming Valentine’s Day collection.

Bear Hug

A Record Ring? Awesome.

Artist Luke Jerram teamed together with a local artist to create a ring that has an etching along the band that can actually play on a small record player. It is not entirely audible but it is still awesome. And it’s a Talking Ring

The same artist created a ring that projects images through it.

When its held up to light, the photographic slide and the lens magnifies the images onto a surface on the other side. It’s a slide projector that slides on your finger!

This inspires me truly,

Jenny and Jimbob Christmas!

This was the our first Christmas not trekking out to Alabama or New York. So Jimbob and I stayed in LA and made it a crafting Christmas. . . .

We made our own stockings . . .

My Stocking

Note: I love how my stocking looks like it has a tail. . .

Jimbob's Stocking

We got our first tree. And then realized we only had 2 ornaments. So rather than buying those generic ones, we tied fabric scraps to twine and wrapped it around as garland and Jimbob tied a wooden chicken to the top for the angel. At first, he had it tied around the neck but it made me sad so I retied it to the waist like a belt.

Chicken Angel

We were invited to our friends house for Christmas Day Supper but they got a stomach virus and canceled. So I made them these to remind them of Christmas 2010. . .

Toilet ornaments with 2010 in the lid.

With all of the free time I also made these his/her bathroom sign napkins. . .

Bathroom Signage Recycled Fabric Napkins

All while watching a fascinating marathon of Lock Up : Raw on MSNBC. No photo.

Hope you had an amazing Christmas!

Santa got Jimbob a Flip camera so expect some uncomfortable but superbly edited Jenny and Jimbob video’s in 2011.

Happy Day!

UNIQUE LA + RENEGADE LA = JENNY AND JIMBOB

It’s the time of the season when we all attempt to make those people close to us say, “O-M-G, this is the coolest gift ever!” And though it can be an overwhelming and uncertain road, we are here to help you. This is the kinda thing Jenny and Jimbob specialize in. We make it easy to draw up all of those favorable emotional responses to a gift.  The best part is that we offer a lot of different responses, from “This is crazy. So random.” to “This is so sweet I think I’m going to cry.” to “I can’t believe you! Isn’t this inappropriate?”Of course, this holiday season, we are giving the men a chance to respond, “Cool babe. These are rad. Thanks.” Yup, you got it, we made some unique man goods.

We are offering, just for this holiday season, limited edition Jenny and Jimbob cuff links. Yup, we turned many of your favorite charms into sleeve wrangler-dangles. They also come in very special boxes. The catch is, you only get to see them at these two holiday events. So if you are one of those people who say, “I wish they made something for men.” here is your chance.

Check it, see you there. Click image to enlarge!

When an interview goes right. . .

You get a sweet article like this. Reading this article about Jenny and Jimbob on examiner.com by Chelsea Levy made me fall in love with our jewelry all over again.

Jenny and Jimbob: Outrageously original matchbox necklaces

What’s not to love about wearing a tiny golden toilet around your neck? Native Los Angeles jewelers Jenny and Jimbob are pros at turning ordinary and unusual objects into adorably unique charm necklaces.   Their necklace collections feature outrageous and funky charms ranging from miniature electric outlets to vacuum cleaners to gas nozzles.  Each necklace is housed in a brightly colored matchbox with a unique sassy saying on the cover.

I had the chance to chat with Jenny, who is also a full-time actress, about her and her husband’s fantastically playful jewelry line.

Chelsea: Tell me a little bit about how you guys got started making the jewelry.

Jenny: Jimbob and I had just gotten married and asked for money instead of gifts.  We used the money to buy precious metals and stones so Jimmy could make a gorgeous jewelry collection he had been designing.  He spent 4 months and all of our savings making these amazing pieces.  And then. . . the economy tanked. It was heartbreaking.  We realized that many people were in our position; worried, frustrated, and with fewer pennies than before.  We decided to go in a different direction and create unique jewelry that is affordable and makes people laugh.

C: What is the inspiration behind the jewelry?

J: I was tired of seeing girls wearing the same charm necklaces: hearts, peace signs, wishbones, four leaf clovers, etc.  Why can’t a toilet be cute?  Or a stapler?  We choose to make unusual objects into jewelry.  The goal is to give people a truly unique way to express themselves and deepen their relationships with others.  When your girlfriend gives you a “hoe” necklace you can’t help but laugh together.

C: What is your favorite piece you’ve made?

J: I would have to say my favorite piece is the Cheese Grater.  The box says “Be Great.”  When I wear it everyone always asks me if I’m wearing a cheese grater.   I love saying, “Yes!  It reminds me to Be Great!”  And then I end up having a fun and unusual conversation.  People have told me that they buy our necklaces because it helps start conversations about their businesses or things that matter to them.

C: Tell me about the matchboxes the jewelry comes in.

J: The necklaces come in custom matchboxes with a slogan on the top.  It acts as a gift and a card.  People end up keeping the box to put their little treasures in.  It’s like two gifts in one.

C: I heard that you were recently featured by Target?

J:  Yes!  Target.com is featuring our Button Necklace as the “Best Pick for Her” for the holidays.

Presshus Press for Us!!

I feel like this year has been full of “Finally’s!” Many of the “finally’s” will be revealed at a later date. But this “finally” I am wearing like a proud cock. er uh. . peacock.

Our first piece of real bona fide press! We were featured in Vampd Magazine which just released it’s anniversary issue. It’s an on-line magazine. I have to admit that I am making a slow transition to e- anything. I like to read real books. I like the smell of the book, I like to dog ear the pages and underline in real pencil the passages that I want to go back and read. I also love real magazines. I subscribe to a bunch. I love ripping out the pages and taping them on the wall. I have a box of old photos I have ripped out of magazines that I turn to when I need to find inspiration. So I was moderately thrilled to find that this magazine I had been searching the racks for was actually waiting in my email box.  . . when I opened the e-zine link and looked at it on html. I was basically expecting a fancy newsletter. But then . . .I started turning the e-pages and it was like looking at a real magazine! (I’m not very sharp but I have lots of character. . .) The photos were like real magazine photos, shot with the same attention like my Vanity Fair. And you can download the magazine and select and clip the photos that you like and keep them in a folder. . . on your desk top. . . e-gasm!

Alright, you get the picture. . .but like I said I read alot of magazines and I was very impressed with Vampd. Every magazine you find on the racks is forced to get add dollars from designers buying the expensive adds in order to keep their magazine on the shelf. So you end up seeing the same Versace ad in every magazine. But this e-zine is free so it can feature cool independent designers . . .(like Jenny and Jimbob!!) . . .who will one day be the Virtual Versace’s. Thanks to Vampd Magazine. I saw lots of designers I know through doing craft shows and trade shows all over the country. Designers that you can only find in cute indie boutiques. They curated the Anniversary Issue beautifully. (especially page 68.) But e-pictures speak in bigger bytes than a keyboard types so here it is!! Our presshus press!.  . . .

Isn't it e-mazing!

Be Fabulous!!

I’m Back!

I just wanted to put up a quicky post because I have been absent for so long.

We are in the middle of shipping necklaces and ear rings out to all of the new stores who ordered from us this season. And this is the first time that we hired someone else to handle our production. We have grown so quickly! The first 300 stores, we made each and every piece in our house in LA! I think that was like several thousand necklaces! But now, one year later, we found someone to do most of it for us. We were ecstatic! Then when he delivered . . . we were not so ecstatic.  I know there is a learning curve when you are working with someone new and maybe I’m too attached. But there are certain things that make the quality of the product that I wont budge on. So we took the entire order that we paid for and sat down for the next week (morning thru night) and undid everything that we paid to have done and re did it ourselves. . . again. Ahhh. . .the magic of being a business owner.

But!! We did it! And that’s all that matters now! So we are shipping and packaging, packaging and shipping.

And I guess it’s good that Jimbob and I got to spend that crazy time crying and working together last week. Because we did some wild brainstorming that produced some new outrageous products. Of which I will not share until it’s ready to be sold, of course. But you have never seen anything like it. . .that’s all I will say. And Jimbob is so freakin’ excited about it that he left me to do the rest of the packaging and shipping so he can get to work on it in his studio.

Have a super day!

Jenny

Is it true?!!

For the last year we have been sending these adorable displays to our retailers that I have been personally making by hand. I started by using fabric scraps from my friend rebe’s clothing line. After my 1st hundred of those, I couldn’t take it anymore. The mod podge was eating away my brain cells. I was a happier, but a slightly more confused version of my old self. So I switched to paper which was a bit easier but more expensive. Each display was one of a kind but it was time consuming, expensive, and the display itself was too big and bulky for our adorable boutiques. (It did, however, satisfy my crafting bug. I have since found other ways to feed that little bugger. . .I will get into that in a future post.) But now, after nearly 300 displays under my fingernails, I have finally found the ultimate solution that will end all of my suffering (and those stores with tiny counter tops.)

Today I introduce the Jenny and Jimbob new display 2010!

It holds 16 necklaces on top of it’s squat and petite frame. It comes with an interchangeable cardboard header that can be switched out for holidays and new seasons. Plus!!. . .

It has room for storage!! You just lift the lid and all of your inventory is conveniently located underneath.

I am totally in love! It solves so many of my personal issues! I can’t wait to start sending them out to our new stores!

Happy Tuesday!

Jenny

Carcass, Carcass, and more Carcass

I had this awful dream that watermelon started growing wild in my backyard. That isn’t the awful part. I was so ecstatic! Jimbob and I ran out and immediately started cutting into one and it had a chicken carcass in it. It was so disgusting looking. We cut into another, and another carcass. They all had chicken carcass in them. I don’t know if this is a sign of my time clock screaming at me or that I really want to get chickens. (Jimbob has promised to build me a chicken coop every year for my birthday.  I sit up late at night looking at chickens from my favorite chicken site. Jimbob calls it my chicken porn.) So anyhow, while looking to see if anyone else has had this dream and just happened to make art about it that I could post on the blog. I found this delicious photo:

http://www.mint.com/blog/saving/recipes-from-leftovers-05192010/

And, while I know I’m supposed to blog about jewelry, making jewelry, fashion, and business, I couldn’t help but share the amazing article that came with it about what to do with your food scraps. (another obsession of mine.)

Chicken carcass necklace anyone?

Jimbob has made jewelry out of the chicken bones I leave on the window sills in our house. (not the actual bones, but cast the bones into silver.) There! I talked about jewelry! . . .

scrappity do!

Tattoo Pigs

Tattooed Pigs!

These lil’ oinkers are so cute! And Fabulous! I don’t have any tatts and neither does Jimbob. (But I do have a hickey on my arm that I gave myself in 1st grade and it is still there.) I just can’t think of anything that I would like to look at for the next 100 yrs.

Whether or not this is considered “humane” or if it affects the bacon is beyond me.

Time for breakfast.
